A long-in-coming sequel to 2002's Stronghold: Crusader, it sports an impressive-sounding list of features, with skirmishes against up to seven customizable AI opponents, co-op in which two players. Hey guys, I thought i've read about the possibility to play the campaigns online co-op, not just random skirmish in co op style. Still I can't find this option. If I host a Multiplayermission, there is the Deathmatchsymbol on the top left, next to two question marks. Does anyone know about those two or the campaign co op? There is a Co-op mode where you and your friend can manage the same castle and a multiplayer where you can play against your friend. Last edited by LorrMaster; Jul 30, 2014 @ 3:56am #4. Stronghold Crusader 2 is the long awaited sequel to Stronghold: Crusader, the original 'castle sim'. After 12 years Stronghold returns to the deserts of the Middle East circa 1189, with a new 3D engine and realistic castle destruction powered by Havok Physics.

posted 04-08-08 04:24 EST (US) Hi all, before I start to ruminate on SH2, let me say that we love to play Stronghold Crusader in coop mode, that is against several AI players. We play these games with our kids, up to four of us against four AI opponents. Great fun! Now, we tried the same with SH2, and I must say, I'm really wondering about quite a few things. One is, playing a network game requires internet connection, why is that? I have seen screenshots here that suggest there is a LAN mode, but with path 1.4.1. there isn't, only internet play is possible. Ack! Am I doing something wrong here? Then, how does this piece of software bypass all the restrictions I have put on the Windows Firewall? The executable is set to be restricted to local subnet, but it doesn't care, but connects to internet despite setting all restrictions or whatever. From a security point of view, this is absolutely inacceptable, so again, am I missing something here? Lastly, it seems that Firefly decided to not enable MP against AI opponents. Which is a huge shame! So I tried the tool available from this site, which in fact worked and enabled AI for a MP game. Not completely though, when the game started we were greeted by the victory screen. Game over. Sad, we were kind of looking forward to be able to play SH2 the same way we are playing and enjoying Crusader, but that doesn't seem possible. Please tell me that I got it all wrong. as things look, we will deinstall SH2 again and put it away as one of the games that turn out to be crap. http://www.staedtebauen.de http://www.simcity-soc.de | |

posted 04-08-08 16:51 EST (US) 1 / 5 You're not doing anything wrong. LAN play was silently removed from the game. The recent trend to removing LAN play is because, allegedly, allowing people to host a server (which is what you do with a LAN) is a stepping stone to software piracy and cheating. So while crackers will still crack and distribute the game, they will not be able to play multiplayer games. I'll refrain from further comments. Kids might read this. Ehh. I'm not sure, here. The Windows Firewall version I'm familiar with only restricts incoming traffic, and connecting abroad is outgoing traffic. While I wholeheartedly thank you for a thought-out and thoughtful post, I'm afraid I must disappoint you and say you haven't erred anywhere. Sorry, mate. posted 04-09-08 04:39 EST (US) 2 / 5 Thanks for these very unfortunate confirmations. Do you have any sources here? I can't believe this. and being a programmer, I know that this wouldn't work out anyway. I'm talking about the Windows Firewall of XP SP2. For all other applications and games, if I set the firewall to only allow traffic in the local subnet, the corresponding application can't connect to any server outside. This is especially true when I set the firewall to disregard any exceptions. Well. OK. You're right, there may be kids reading, so I'll refrain from saying anything rude. $$&%§§&%$ nevertheless. Back to Crusader. Edit: Did some research. According to patchlogs it seems that the LAN feature has been added with patch 1.1. Then, according to forum posts (seems that a number of people wondered about these things in different places) the feature has been present with 1.3.1, so I conclude that it has been removed with 1.4. There's no mention of this in the patchlog for 1.4 however. I have downloaded all the patches now, maybe I'll try some of these things out myself, just to be sure. http://www.staedtebauen.de http://www.simcity-soc.de [This message has been edited by tobing (edited 04-09-2008 @ 07:32 AM).] |
posted 04-12-08 04:44 EST (US) 3 / 5 Sources? I know this is EA's stance--for instance, that's why 'Hellgate: London' allegedly dumped LAN support. And I agree it's bollocks, but hey, if people want to live in a happy little bubble where everyone has free broadband and integers don't overflow, who are we to say otherwise, eh? LAN was removed around 1.4, yes. No mention of it anywhere in any logs. Some kind of warning, rationale, or even an April Fool's mention would've been courteous. posted 04-15-08 02:18 EST (US) 4 / 5 So for Hellgate the LAN is also removed? Very strange. Btw, SH2 is Take 2, which is not (yet) EA's. Who we are? We are their customers, and they make their money with us, IF we buy their games. To be honest, I buy fewer and fewer games, but instead start to play open source games, contribute to them and have already started by own game programming project. http://www.staedtebauen.de http://www.simcity-soc.de |
posted 04-15-08 13:28 EST (US) 5 / 5 Indeed it isn't but, despite my attempts at denial, EA is a big mover in the game industry, so we will be seeing this in many more games to come. Too right, mate!
